Mathys Roets and Pieter Pretorius were amongst the720 participants at this year's Hermanus Wheels and Runners race at the beginning of May. The fastest wheelchair athlete in the marathon was Andrew Stodel from Cape Town. Tsepo Shelembe of Richmond, KZN, and Sarah Gordon, from Stanford, won the 21,1 km runners race. In the 10 km race Mngoma Nkosibonile from Richmond, KZN, and Melinda van Eck from Cape Town took the honours.

This year's race was slightly different with participants having to register online. This obviously did not suit some of the previous runners and the number of runners was lower than last year. However! Over all there were more participants which means there were many more wheelchair athletes.

According to participants the organising was excellent and everything ran smoothly. The occasional showers did nothing to dampen the enthusiasm of the athletes, and the resulting rainbows had the athletes all pushing as hard as they could for the finish line to search for the pot o' gold.
