QASA would like to congratulate Andrew Deere on passing his driving licence. Andrewstarted driving lessons with Driving Ambitions in February this year, and has the honour of being the first person to achieve his driving licence through the project.

QASA has committed toproviding a functional service of driver training giving people withdisabilities an opportunity to obtain their driving licence with DrivingAmbitions. Using an adapted car(sponsored by AVIS) and trained driving instructors, the project aims to takepeople with disabilities to another level of independence. The achievement of obtaining a driving licence goes on to allow for employment opportunities and social freedom. It is indeed a life changing accreditation.

Andrew thanked both Caroline Rule, the project’s Occupational Therapist and Pat Allen, the driving instructor for their support, patience, sensitivity and encouragement. ‘My experience was so fulfilling and liberating’ said Andrew ofthe project. ‘Driving Ambitions was the start of a new chapter in my new life –and I thank Caroline and Pat for having faith in me.’

After many months of saving, Andrew recently bought an adapted car. This will ensure he continues to be mobile, independent and able to enjoy the many years of driving freedom that lie ahead.

DrivingAmbitions was officially launched in March and is currently only running inPretoria. However there are long term plans for the services to migrate toother provinces. Visit www.drivingambitions.co.za for more information on this exciting project.

QASA and Driving Ambitions are proud to have shared an unforgettable part of Andrew’sroad to rehabilitation, and applaud his determinationand courage to achieve his dream of driving again. We wish Andrew all the verybest for this new chapter in his life and will follow his progress withinterest.
