COIDA Owes R13.3 million to O&P's
The Orthotic& Prosthetic profession is reeling after the apparent collapse of the new payment system implemented by the Compensation Fund 1 October, 2011. Reports indicate that no payments have been made to practitioners since implementation.
A SAOPA survey of members revealed a staggering R13.3 million owed by COIDA. SAOPA officials are trying to get to the bottom of the problem and resolve the issue. If the problem persists treatment of IOD patients could be compromised.
"Workers who get injured on duty must resume work as soon as possible, and our O&P members strive to assist patients in regaining their mobility," said SAOPA administrator, Stanford Slabbert. "It is sad that the administrative aspects, such as payments for services rendered, are in such a chaotic situation, which places huge stress on our members, who do their best to get injured patients back to work", said Stanford.
