This has been a turbulent, but interesting year for me. As the hourglass runs out on 2013, it is a good time to reflect on everything that has happened this past year. I think we can all agree, that it has been an eventful one. Some of us are happy to be leaving this year behind us, and I hope that it will end on a good note.

Emotionally, I have had so much to deal with this year. I ended an intense relationship that left me drained. I really thought I had found ‘the one’.  Sadly, it didn’t turn out the way I wanted, but hope springs eternal, and when life knocks us down, we have to get back up again. I am pleased to tell you, that I have met the most amazing person. Yes, I am taking a risk and I believe that I won’t be hurt again because we learn from our past relationships. I know better now.

Take a moment to reflect and take stock of your life. Reflect on the good and the bad, the pleasant and painful, without dwelling on the negative incidents too much. When you think about unpleasant memories, reflect on the lessons that you have learnt. It is only when we try to find the silver linings that we can cope with some of the bad things in our lives.

When you think about the lessons that you have learnt, you will realize that you are now better equipped to deal with challenges that may arise in the future. You are now able to prevent the repetition of your past mistakes. Now, let’s focus on the positive. Maybe you landed a new contract, or started your own business, or bought a house. Remember, how you felt whenever something exciting happened? Do you remember feeling strong, confident, and formidable? Hold on to these feelings and focus on them. Become them. Make it a habit to shift your focus to the positive aspects of your life, so that you can attract more good vibes into your life.

The silly season

I love this time of the year. Everyone is so excited. Suddenly, your boss turns into the nicest person ever (well, that’s if you are not working for Miranda Priestley from The Devil Wears Prada). Some of us will be making plans for how we are going to spend our annual bonuses, or take that long overdue holiday. Personally, I love going to family parties where there is always a lot of delicious food and people are catching up on gossip. This is a good time to relax, watch movies and spend time with friends.

What are your plans for the festive season? Are you looking forward to ending 2013, with a bang? Whatever your plans are, remember that this is your moment. Live like today is your last day and love like you have never been hurt before. Forgive those who have wronged you and start the New Year with a clean slate. Accept the things you can’t change and most importantly, be kind to yourself.

Happy New Year!
